Goal of the School Counseling Department
It is the goal of the school counseling department to support the total growth of every student. Through a variety of services I will provide students with the support, and skills they need in order to encourage their success in three main areas: career development, academic development, and social/emotional development. This will be accomplished through the use of individual counseling services, small group counseling, classroom lessons, coordination of services, consultation and collaboration, and referrals.
School Counseling Services
Individual Counseling Students will meet with the counselor one on one to discuss a variety of issues. This will take place in a safe, confidential, positive setting and the topics discussed will be based on the needs of each individual student. These services will be provided by appointment, referral, and in crisis situations. The topics could include: grief and loss, problem solving, feelings, stress, academics, bullying, social skills, self-esteem, and getting along with others. Small Group Counseling Students will meet with the counselor in small groups of 5-8 students. The students will participate in group counseling based on similar needs that have been identified by each. The method of counseling will be goal-oriented and aimed at helping students enhance and develop coping skills based on a variety issues. The topics could include: self-esteem, friendship, anger, grief and loss, and divorce. These groups will be confidential within the participants of the group. Classroom Lessons The counselor will provide lessons and activities for all students through whole group lessons. These lessons are based on a collaborative effort between the counselor and the teacher to provide students with support, information, and resources based on student needs. Topics could include: character education, following directions, anti-bullying, safety, and peer relationships. Classroom lessons also provide opportunity for all students to receive beneficial information and guidance from the counseling department. |

Consultation and Collaboration The school counselor will implement school-based collaboration and consultation with teachers, parents, and other school related specialists to assist with providing needed services to students in the areas of academic, career, and social/emotional support. Referral Assistance The school counselor will maintain a list of resources for parents and students to refer to when other services, beyond the scope and expertise of the school counselor and the services that the school counseling department provides, are needed.
